The Dairy Innovation Hub will hold its inaugural Dairy Summit conference on November 18 in virtual format.
The event will showcase speakers who have received Hub funding for innovative and timely dairy research. Projects from each of the Hub’s four critical priority areas will be represented.
Farmers, processors, dairy professionals, legislators and community members are invited to attend this free educational event.
The Dairy Innovation Hub, which the state of Wisconsin is supporting with $7.8 million per year, harnesses research and development at UW–Madison, UW–Platteville and UW–River Falls campuses to keep Wisconsin’s $45.6 billion dairy community at the global forefront in producing nutritious dairy products in an economically, environmentally and socially sustainable manner.
In addition to research presentations, there will be three panel sessions designed to stimulate ideas and discussion:
A diverse panel of farmers will discuss important topics related to their unique farming systems and how current and future Hub-funded research can address these challenges.
Opportunities and innovations in the supply chain will be the focus of a processor panel. This group will discuss how with Hub can enhance current resources available to existing and aspiring processors.
A legislative panel discussion about support for the Hub and Wisconsin agriculture will feature three advocates for agriculture and dairy: Sen. Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green), Rep. Dave Considine (D-Baraboo) and Rep. Tony Kurtz (R-Wonewoc).
Finishing out the day will be a virtual tour of Pioneer Farm, UW-Platteville’s 430-acre, 180-cow teaching, research and outreach farm. UW-Platteville will serve as the virtual host for the event.
