Wisconsin had 4.9 days suitable for fieldwork statewide for the week ending July 20, 2025, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Continued precipitation was beneficial for most crops but presented challenges for making hay.
Topsoil moisture condition rated 0 percent very short, 9 percent short, 75 percent adequate and 16 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture condition rated 1 percent very short, 11 percent short, 74 percent adequate and 14 percent surplus.
Corn silking was 30 percent complete, 2 days behind last year. Corn condition was rated 79 percent good to excellent, 1 percentage point better than last week. Fifty-nine percent of the soybean crop has bloomed, 6 days ahead of last year but even with average. Seventeen percent of the soybeans were setting pods. Soybean condition was 75 percent good to excellent, up 1 percentage point from last week.
Winter wheat was 97 percent coloring with 14 percent of the grain harvested. Condition was rated 72 percent good to excellent, unchanged from last week. Oats were 94 percent headed and 67 percent coloring. Seven percent of the oat for grain crop has been harvested. Oat condition was rated 83 percent good to excellent, up 2 percentage points from last week.
Potatoes were 3 percent harvested, and condition was 90 percent good to excellent. The second cutting of alfalfa hay was 81 percent complete, 3 days ahead of last year, but 1 day behind the average. The third cutting was 13 percent complete. Hay condition was rated 82 percent good to excellent, up 2 percentage points from last week. Pasture and range condition was rated 74 percent good to excellent, up 4 percentage points from last week.
