Cooperative Network Selects New Executive Director

Ben Nelson has been selected to lead Cooperative Network as the organization’s executive director, effective November 3, 2025.

In this role, Nelson will direct all activities of Cooperative Network’s two-state operations. His primary duties include working with all cooperative sectors, membership recruitment, directing the legislative and regulatory agenda in both Minnesota and Wisconsin, and working closely with cooperative directors, managers and employees.

Nelson joins Cooperative Network with more than 20 years of executive leadership experience driving strategic growth and organizational transformation across both public and private sectors. Most recently, as executive director of the Kewaunee County Economic Development Corporation, he led a successful revitalization of the organization, boosting investor engagement by nearly 400%, securing more than $8.4 million in grant funding, and bringing together public and private partners to develop a shared economic strategic plan.

A seven-time recipient of leadership awards, Nelson is recognized for his ability to build partnerships, deliver measurable results, and lead with vision and integrity. “Joining Cooperative Network is an honor,” said Nelson. “I see tremendous opportunity to build on our shared history and advance our impact across Wisconsin and Minnesota. Our greatest strength lies in the partnerships we build, and I look forward to working closely with our board, membership, and collaborative partners to amplify the impact of cooperatives and champion the values that make this network so vital to Wisconsin and Minnesota.”

A Wisconsin native, Nelson enjoys early morning coffee, concerts, wood working, and spending quality
time with his wife and children exploring the outdoors.
