Ashley Hagenow was chosen to serve this past year as the 76th Alice in Dairyland and will be finishing up her term on July 8th.
Growing up in Poynette WI, Hagenow showed and judged livestock through 4-H at multiple fairs. Which is what kickstarted her path in Agriculture. That passion for judging continued in her college career as she judged on the University of Minnesota Dairy Cattle judging team. Which she credits for helping her develop her speaking ability, decision making, and organization.
Hagenow recalls experiences with many past Alice in Dairyland’s. Those interactions were at the foot of the showring at the Wisconsin State Fair. Where she saw first-hand how they were able to converse and connect with the public and fairgoers.
When asked to describe her year of service in two words, “maximize” and “connect” were the two that came to mind. “Maximize would definitely be a huge word to describe this year as Alice and to really just make the most of this experience because you only have one year.” She also elaborates on her connection with Alice. “Alice is a connection to agriculture, and she is a connection to everyone in the state of Wisconsin and beyond.”
Hagenow hopes that the program hits the 100-year mark and continues on its path for promoting Wisconsin agriculture. She is also excited for family legacies to possibly start playing a role in the Alice in Dairyland program. Along with continuing to grow and educate well into the future.
Hagenow’s authenticity and kindness has shined for many to see this year in her role as Alice. At the Mid-West Farm Report, we are thankful for all of her work and company as she concludes her year.
