Madison, WI: The Association of Women in Agriculture (AWA) elected their new leadership positions for the 2021-2022 academic year, held virtually on April 10, 2021. Three additional ladies were also selected by the Association of Women in Agriculture Benefit Corporation (AWABC) to serve as the House Manager, House Steward and House Assistant.
The officer team consists of 15 officers who combine their talents throughout the year to plan, promote and execute events that fall within AWA’s three pillars of service, social and professional events. Each officer’s specific duties cater to their own position; however, all officers are integral to the success of all AWA events.
At the helm of the organization will be the AWA President, Sabrina Servais, a senior studying Dairy Science and Life Sciences Communication, with a certificate in Agricultural Business Management. The rest of the core officer team will be made up by Taylor Schaefer, Vice President; Sophy Henisz, Secretary; and Nicole Broege, Treasurer. Other officers include: Alexis Luedtke, Membership Coordinator; Sara Johnson, Activities Coordinator; Olivia Spaight, Communications Coordinator; Clarissa Gross, Alumni Coordinator; Kendra Gillett, Fundraising Coordinator; Kelsey Maurer, Service Coordinator; McKenzie Trinko, Sentinel; Alexis Kwak, Sunshine; Kimberly Mason, House Manager; Grace Vos, House Steward; Mae Buttles, House Assistant.
Heather White, associate professor of Dairy Science and faculty director for the Dairy Innovation Hub, will continue in her role as AWA’s advisor and will attend officer and general meetings throughout the year.
AWA is a 501c7 non-profit professional student organization at the University of Wisconsin-Madison housed in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The organization was founded in the spring of 1973 and now has a membership of 80 young women and an alumni and associate members and friends’ membership of more than 500 people who all share a passion for agriculture. The organization is built upon the three pillars of professional, service, and social with a goal of improving communication among women in agriculture and helping them achieve their goals. AWABC provides student housing for 24 members at its house located near the agricultural campus at UW-Madison. AWABC hosts member events to support professional development, leadership and networking as well as public agricultural educational activities to promote agricultural awareness. http://awamadison.org
