The Association of Women in Agriculture (AWA) proudly celebrated its 50th anniversary in April 2023. The event in Madison, WI, brought together 300 alumna and student members. To mark this milestone and highlight its partnership with the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, AWA organized a fundraiser during the event. Funds raised were matched by AWA to donate two flat steel benches flanking the main entrance of Agricultural Hall on the UW-Madison campus.
Founded in 1973 by 10 women majoring in agriculture, today, it boasts more than 100 student members and more than 500 alumna, associate, and friend members, all passionate about agriculture. AWA is
dedicated to helping its members achieve their goals through its three pillars: professional development,
service, and social engagement.
AWA contributes to the agricultural community in several specific ways such as:
- Providing affordable student housing for 24 members near the agricultural campus at UW-Madison
- Offering educational scholarships to AWA student members attending UW-Madison
- Assisting members with job placement and professional development
- Promoting public education and awareness about agriculture
- Cultivating community leaders, volunteers, and agricultural advocates
- Creating an environment for college women to network, grow, and learn as individuals and team members
