The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Surface Water Grant Program provides Healthy Lakes & Rivers funding to qualified organizations. This is to help facilitate the installation of habitat and water quality improvement practices on public or private shoreland property. These simple and inexpensive practices include fish sticks, native plantings, diversions, rock infiltrations and rain gardens. Practices installed using grant funding must follow department guidelines. Detailed information is available online.

Healthy Lakes & Rivers applicants have installed practices on over 1,000 properties in 38 counties. This represents a $1.71 million investment from the DNR Surface Water Grant Program. Applications from new and returning organizations are encouraged to help us continue to grow this program and protect Wisconsin’s lakes and rivers!
