The Wisconsin Farm Bureau Foundation’s Agriculture in the Classroom program has awarded $5,000 to educators and agriculture literacy programs. This funding will support innovative classroom initiatives that incorporate agriculture concepts into core curricula.
“Agricultural literacy allows educators to embed cross-curricular connections that incorporate social studies, science, health and nutrition, math, art and more while helping students to build awareness and understanding of the many ways their lives are impacted by agriculture every single day,” says Wisconsin Agriculture in the Classroom Coordinator Beth Schaefer. “We are excited to support Wisconsin educators and students as they engage in project-based and place-based learning initiatives that support agricultural literacy as well as local curriculum.”
Through the ‘Ag in ALL Classrooms’ grant program, groups, schools, and educators can apply for up to $500 to enhance agricultural literacy. This year, several projects have received funding to bring creative agricultural education into classrooms.
Projects awarded funding include:
- Growing Together: A Greenhouse Revival – MARM Farm and South Milwaukee Middle School
- Project Honeybees – LEAP Elementary School, Watertown School District
- Fall River Pirate’s Table: Farm to Fork – Fall River High School and Middle School
- Bulbs, Buds, and Blossoms – School for Agriculture and Environmental Studies, Waupun School District
- COWS: Celebrating Our Wisconsin Specialties – Stetsonville Elementary, Medford School District
